At YogaWaves we believe that one of the best ways to help communities to move from income insecurity to economic self sufficiency and enriching the quality of life for some of the worlds poorest people is through supporting the promotion of fair trade goods.

Fair trade is important to us and we are seeking to develop our links with countries such as Thailand, Nepal and Indonesia, where the fair trade suppliers will often deal with primary producers, and will give advance payments to enable the purchase of land, machineryor the building of new workshops.

Many of the larger fair trade enterprises also give greater job security and extra benefits,such as free healthcare for the worker and their family and free or subsidised education or they support community projects such as schools, orphanages and grants for workers.

All fair trade suppliers ensure that their workers are paid a fair price per piece, which is ator above the national average or in accordance with national laws, and they work to makesure that men and women are paid the same rate.

Fair trade suppliers also try to order regularly from each producer to maintain continuity of demand and ensure that no children under the age of 16 are involved in factory based production.

Many Fair trade items are produced by home workers which allows people to make additional income whilst allowing them to look after their homes and families. Fair trade suppliers often provide advance payments for orders, to ensure that producers do not have to take on debts in order to complete orders.

Many of our suppliers try to minimise their impact on the environment, where possible using recycled materials and encouraging producers to source raw materials locally and touse recycled packaging on their products. Many are now using recycled plastic and recycled cardboard.
